But who is the tooth fairy?

The tooth fairy is a legendary creature who most likely originated from early Europe where it was the tradition for children fallen baby teeth to buried in the ground. This custom then evolved into one in which the child’s 6th fallen tooth being buried under a pillow where it was exchanged, by the good tooth fairy, for coins or little gifts.

By the time this tradition made its way to the Americas and most particularly among the Angelo-Saxons and Latinos, it changed in two significant ways. First of all, it became no longer necessary to count the fallen teeth as the tooth fairy very generously delivered her gifts for each little tooth that fell out. Secondly, the fallen teen stopped being replaced by the gifts which were left under the pillows beside them.
